We walked the lanes up to the old barn on the moor above our village this morning. It was wonderful to be out and about in the bright sunshine. – even though I was kept on the  lead for the whole hour we were out.  I think Spring is stirring itself a bit today. Dunnocks were chirping noisily and flitting in and out of their sheltering hedges and in the tall boughs above our heads, rooks made a terrible racket, cawing and then whirling down into the bare fields to forage for sticks and straw. It looked to me as if they were begining to nest! I was ready for a bit of a frolick myself – it was very frustrating not being able to run around – when I tugged the lead with my teeth to let her know I wanted to be off it – Mum said, ‘No! Too many cars today!”  When we got back we did our usual wander around the garden and lo! and behold! Spring is definitely making itself felt in our little neck of the woods! – have a look at the photos we took.

Then she got all poetical and began to recite this:

‘…The speculating rooks at their nests cawed

And saw from elm-tops, delicate as flower of grass,

What we below could not

see, Winter pass.’

You can tell Mum was a teacher can’t you?

If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind? A hopeful walk

The Sun is rising higher in the sky Marla. Hopefully warmer days are not too far ahead.
